What major factors contribute to good health? Janet Lewis Muth has three possible answers: access to affordable housing, access to public transportation, and access to affordable, healthy food.
As the director of Growing Up Healthy, a Blue Cross Blue Shield-funded initiative to improve health care for low income families with young children living in Rice County, Muth has researched the social factors underlying good health in three lower-income residential sites: Northfield’s Viking Terrace, Faribault’s Cannon River Park, and Faribault’s Four Seasons Area.
Last Saturday, I spoke with Janet Muth, the director of Growing Up Healthy Rice County, to discuss her work with Growing Up Healthy, her philosophy, and the future of the program.
